Eschscholzia californica, also known as the Californian poppy, golden poppy, California sunlight, or cup of gold, is a species of flowering plant in the family Papaveraceae, native to the United States and Mexico. Salvia mellifera (Black sage) is a small, highly aromatic, evergreen shrub of the genus Salvia (the sages) native to California, and Baja California, Mexico. As with any wild animal, if it feels threatened by someone coming toward it or chasing it, it may feel the need to protect itself.     The greater roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) is a long-legged bird in the cuckoo family, Cuculidae, from Southwestern United States and Mexico. Some species are found in brooks and streams where there is fresh water running, while others thrive in swamps, ditches, and rice paddies.
